Potential problems and how you’re going to overcome them:

Since the camera is sideways it may be difficult to capture the disoriented shot as the camera cant be too straight or it will look unrealistic. To overcome this problem i have decided to shoot more than one shot and from those decide which shot captured this scene correctly.
Another problem that may occur is that the costume might not be able to be ready by the time we have to film this scene, due to our short time schedules we plan to try our hardest that the costume for the little girl is put together from the best that we can find.

Potential problems and how you’re going to overcome them: As we are filming this in a dark park it will be difficult to maintain the correct lighting . The solution to this problem will be to get a torch or film in the park but closer to the post lamps. Also it will be difficult to make the make-up and costumes look scary. To overcome this problem we would search on-line how to do the correct make-up so we don't over do it.

Potential problems and how you’re going to overcome them: As we are making a long shot of the cast walking inside the park, it will be hard having the park empty , since is a public park. To overcome this we will have to be ready whenever there is a opportunity and also be quick because there will be a lot of people crossing the park 

Horror Film Rough Cut 2 Feedback

In class we showed our second Rough Cut of our Horror film to our media group. We have already shown them one preview of our movie and they have given us feedback  for our first one but this time we showed them a second rough cut which included tittles and improvements from our last rough cut. here is a link to our second rough cut http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A39uZBq1YX4&safe=active.

After showing the class our send rough cut we again received feedback on what we had done. Here is our feedback that we were given:

"The tittle chosen was a really good choice in colour, the red and white matches the theme to the rest of the film opening. With the titles looking professional it made it look like a real horror film opening."

"The added sound to the production company was effective to make it look like a real production company that had been producing your film."

"The theme of the colours match the production company."

"The use of titles and font was effective and fitted what was happening on screen. Also the positioning of the titles worked well with what was going on, it didn't obstruct anything happening on the screen."

"The fact that the original idea was to make it look like found footage, the title of the film 'November 23rd' was great because that was the date of the event and the crime. It made it better in the sense that it convinces the audience more that it is a true story."

"The tension building music made me feel like i was in the movie and that something bad was going to happen. Although as effective as it is to have it, at times i felt that is was too loud and it took over more than it should have. So much that i couldn't hear what was going on with the characters."

"There needs to be a transition between the production company and the beginning of the film because it makes it look very unprofessional."

I have read all these feedback comments and my group and I will do our best to take them all into consideration and put them into our horror film in order to make it better.

My Film Classification

In class we discussed what age our film should be. BBFC are the people who decide the age rating on any film depending what is being shown in the film. We went on their website to check all of their age  guidelines for what can be shown for different ages. Here is a link to their website http://www.bbfc.co.uk
While looking at the age ratings, as a group we came to the decision that our film was suitable for the age of 15 and over as it can contain; strong violence, strong language, brief scenes of sexual violence etc... The topics that our horror film touches on would not be allowed to show younger ages so 15 is the youngest someone should be to view our film without it being inappropriate.

After showing the rough cut to my media class we were given feedback on their opinions on what we 
have done so far. They understood that we were not finished and that there were some missing things 
 but this is the feedback that we have been given;

" -The breathing and the filming from behind the tree was very affective."

I have read all these feedback comments and my group and I will do our best to take them all into consideration and put them into our horror film in order to make it better.

Conventions used in horror films

In media we were asked to get into groups and display four different scenes of a horror movie we made up using jelly babies and other utensils offered to us. For each scene we had to talk about the horror film convention used  e.g. sound, costume etc...

In the first scene above the convention used is setting. We used the whiteboard to create a forest setting at night as most scary movies are set in places like this.

In the second scene the convention was characters. We showed typical stereotypes for characters for example; we used the yellow jelly baby to signify a dumb blonde, she didn't follow the group so she got killed first. The other character we stereotyped was the black jelly baby because it is dark we used it as the killer, in all horror films the killer is displayed as dark and evil so we chose the dark jelly baby to be the killer. We also included a prop of a little red knife to show the dark jelly baby killing the blonde and we placed another red jelly baby laying down next to the blonde to show `blood'.

In the next scene we presented the convention of sound. Since we couldn't make sounds come out of the sweets we drew music notes on the white board, the notes represent both diegetic and non diegetic sound. The diegetic sound was of the girl screaming and the non diegetic sound was the terrifying music that comes on when people are being killed. Characters was also shown here as the next jelly baby to be killed was the red one, red in horror movies used anywhere is to display danger and if a character was in red they were going to die.

In the final scene the convention displayed was props. We used white bowl that was supposed to be a cave, we also thought that it was perfect to use the bowl as it is white and in media white is always used in positive way for example for purity. The green jelly baby got away by hiding in a white cave because it was safe and pure.

Horror Film Opening Examples

In class our teacher showed us some passed student's Horror Film Openings and we gave our feedback on what we thought. This helped us a lot because it showed us that to get a good grade it doesn't need to be over the top and as good as actual horror film.

I learned a few things in that lesson and they are:

• You don't actually need to show the death to make it scary.
• A quick opening can still be successful as long as it is clear and can be understood.
• Lighting is going to be a main issue because the lights outside aren't useful when filming outside.
• Bad acting will bring our grade down.
• Rushed assignments aren't going to get us a good grade.
• Using varied camera angles to create meaning is a good thing to do.
• Editing with sound is something we have to do.
• Including Mise-en-scene for effect is good.
• Editing is a way to make meanings clear.
• STEADY CAMERA WORK IS KEY.

After my group presented our presentation, we were given feedback on how to make our horror film better. The feedback our fellow peers gave us was:

"It was really good i like the way you presented everything very clearly the presentation explains all the ideas well and it shows that you have thought through your ideas."

"The point of view shot is a good idea because it makes the movie seem more realistic for the audience but just make sure that the camera isn't completely disoriented just a little shakey because if the camera is too shakey then the audience wont be able to see what is going on properly."

"The location is a good idea but because you are filming in a park at night that presents a challenge for you with the lighting. It is good to have darkness but you still need to be able to see so just make sure that the lighting comes through good and your film will be fine."

"The park you have chosen has a time limit on it before it closes so make sure you go in film and leave before it closes."

"You might want to try a different park like Larkhall park."

"As long as the girl looks dead it will be really good, plus the more dead she looks the more realistic your movie will be."

I have read all these feedback comments and i will see to it that i put them into my movie in order to make it better.
